Frequently asked questions
Account
How do I sign up or sign in?
Open the app and tap Sign in with Apple, or Continue with Email to sign up with an email and password (at least 8 characters). The first time, you'll pick a name; a profile photo is optional. We don't support phone number or text message sign-in.
I forgot my password.
You can't reset your password in the app yet. We're working on it. If you're still signed in on another device, go to Me → Change Password. If you use Sign in with Apple, you're not affected. If you can't sign in anywhere, email support@kinhop.app with the email address you signed up with. We'll verify it's you and get in touch.
How do I change my name or profile photo?
On the Me page, use the card at the top: tap your name to edit it, or tap your photo to change or remove it. Your new name shows up in group chats right away.
How do I delete my account? What gets deleted?
In the app, you can change your name and profile photo, unsend messages, delete photos you uploaded, and block or report others. You can also delete your account in Me → Delete Account. This can't be undone.
- What's deleted: your sign-in details (Apple account identifier, email, and password), your name, profile photo, and bio, your friends and friend requests, your private chats (they disappear for the other person too, along with any photos, videos, and files in them), your Blocked People list, any phone number an organizer added for you, your devices and push tokens, and feedback you sent (text, screenshots, and email).
- Your content is deleted too: messages, photos, videos, and files you sent in group chats are deleted and show as "Message unsent", without affecting other people's replies. Photos you added to albums (with their comments and likes), comments you wrote, and likes you gave are also deleted. Files are removed from our storage.
- Events you created: pass to another organizer in the event, or to the member who joined earliest if there isn't one, and the group chat shows a notice. If no one else is in the event, it's deleted along with everything in it.
- What stays: your spot in each event, shown as "Deleted User", and event records such as your line in sign-up lists and confirmations, also shown as "Deleted User". The event's schedule, attachments, and images belong to the whole event and stay until the event is deleted.
- Reports and moderation records: to deal with abuse and protect other users, reports about you, block records involving you, and records of actions we took on your account are kept for 90 days after you delete your account, then deleted automatically. If a report about you hasn't been handled yet, we keep a text copy of the reported content, also for no more than 90 days.
We can't delete copies that other members have already saved to their own devices. To export or delete your data, or for any other privacy request, email support@kinhop.app.
Events and Invites
How do I create an event?
On the home screen, tap + in the top-right corner → New Event. Add a title, type, time, and place, and pick a cover photo if you like. Under Your Past Events, you can reuse the details of an event you've organized before.
How do I invite family and friends?
Open the event and use the menu in the top-right corner:
- Share with Friends: send a link to a group chat. People tap it and join in the app.
- Invite People (Personal Links) — organizers only: send someone a personal invite card with their name and a QR code, great for grandparents. People without the app can open this link in a web browser to see the schedule and tap Got It.
Someone sent me an invite link. How do I join?
Tap the link, or open the app, tap + on the home screen → I Have an Invite Link, and paste it. Then tap I'm In. If the organizer approves each person, tap Request to Join and wait for approval.
How many people can join? Do links expire?
Up to 50 people per event, including people waiting for approval. Invite links stop working 7 days after the event ends. Organizers can set joining to Open, Ask Me, or Closed on the invite page.
What's the difference between the creator and an organizer?
The creator is the person who made the event (there's only one). The creator can make other people organizers. Organizers can manage members, approve requests, plan the schedule, change times and places, and see who hasn't confirmed. Only the creator can add or remove organizers or hand the event to someone else.
My kid doesn't have a phone. What do I do?
When an organizer adds someone on the invite page, they can choose Add a Person and turn on Kid (No Phone). The kid's notifications go to that organizer (the guardian), who can tap Got It for them.
Schedule and Got It
How do I see the schedule?
Open the event → Schedule. You can switch between month, week, day, and hour views. Times are always shown in the event's local time. You can also show your other events and your phone's calendar (your phone's calendar stays on your device and is never uploaded).
The organizer changed the time or place. What do I do?
You'll get a notification. Just tap Got It in Needs Your OK on the home screen, or on the change card in the event. On supported iPhones, you can also tap it right in the notification on your Lock Screen (unlock first). If you're offline, it still counts and will send when you're back online.
I'm an organizer. How do I know who hasn't seen a change?
After you send a change, the card shows who confirmed, who saw it but didn't confirm (dashed outline, the people to call first), and who can't be notified (no app). Tap the Remind button to send it again, or call them.
Can I fix a note without bothering everyone?
Yes. Tap the item in the schedule → Edit Details & Images (No Notification) to change the title, notes, end time, or photos. No one gets notified. Only changing the time or place, or canceling an item, asks everyone to confirm.
Chats and Friends
How do I add friends? Can I search for people?
In Chats, tap the Friends button in the top-left corner → Add Friends from Events → choose someone and tap Add Friend. You can't search by name or phone number. You can only add people you've been in an event with. That's on purpose.
Can I unsend a message?
Yes. Touch and hold your message → Unsend. Organizers can unsend anyone's message in the group chat.
How do I give a friend or group chat a private name?
For a friend: touch and hold them in your friends list, or tap ⋯ in your private chat → Set Remark. For a group chat: touch and hold it in the chat list → Set Group Remark. Only you can see it.
Someone is harassing me. What can I do?
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Touch and hold a message or comment to report it, or open a photo and tap ⋯ to report it. You can also block someone from their profile card. When you block someone, their content disappears from your view right away, they aren't notified, and we receive a record of the block. We review every report within 24 hours: content that breaks these rules is removed, and accounts that post it or harass others are banned. A block on its own doesn't mean someone broke the rules; we look into it before taking action. Where required by law, we cooperate with law enforcement.
Album
Are photos compressed? How many can I upload?
The album keeps full-quality originals. Go to Album → tap + on the event card. You can pick up to 200 photos at once, and uploading keeps going when your phone is locked. Before uploading, we remove the location (GPS) from your photos; nothing else changes.
How do I save someone else's photo?
Tap ↓ under the photo to save the original, or open the photo full screen and use Save to Photos or Share at the bottom.
Settings and More
The text is too small.
Go to Me → Text Size. There are 7 sizes, and the largest is Large Text Mode. Changes apply right away. On a Mac, you can also press ⌘+ or ⌘-.
How do I change the language?
Go to Me → Language and choose Follow System, English, 简体中文, or 繁體中文. No restart needed.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check the Me page to see whether notifications are on. If they're off, turn them on in Settings → Notifications → Kinhop. Also turn on Settings → Notifications → Kinhop → Time Sensitive Notifications, so time and place changes from the organizer get through Focus modes. If it still doesn't work, email support@kinhop.app or use Me → Send Feedback, and tell us whether you're on iPhone or Mac and your app version (at the bottom of the Me page).
